The echoes of Austria’s imperial past meet the spirit of OG Web3 Art. Hackatao collaborate with the Austrian Post to create a phygital stamp collection inspired by the whirlwind lives of Empress Elisabeth and Emperor Franz Joseph I. of Austria.
Bearing the stories of an enigmatic empress and a steadfast emperor, the collection reimagines their legacies through Hackatao’s signature blend of vibrant pop and intricate, deeply-researched visual storytelling.

It is worth noting the differences between Sisi and Franz that immortalised their story - and that Hackatao mirrors these contrasts in their artistic process: The parallels and differences stare at us, the search for freedom that the pop icon Sisi lived by and the unique dutiful nature of Franz Joseph’s life and reign. S.'s surrealist floating style blends with N.'s super-flat techniques, creating a visual yin-yang dialogue. Each detail in the artworks is a portal into the turbulent lives that the imperial couple lived.
THE COLLECTION
The collection consists of 10,000 stamps that exist as both a physical and a digitally animated version.
There are four different stamps, namely: Empress Elisabeth of Austria + Franz Joseph I. of Austria + Sisi Skull + Franz Skull.
The Skulls represent the Habsburg funeral rite, where the true versions of ourselves are revealed as we abolish our titles and pass over.

The animated web3 stamps are distinguished in rarity by a colour coded system with the most rare being a glitch version.
The stamps are sold at the Crypto stamp website, at selected Austrian Post offices (1030 WIEN + 1210 WIEN + 5110 OBERNDORF + 4411 CHRISTKINDL), as well as the Sisi Museum and the Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna.
A NEW STAMP
Operating with a ‘Soulbound’ dynamic, the physical and digital are inseparable. This means that if you would like to sell your stamp, you would have to part ways with both the physical and digital.
Each physical stamp comes with a unique digital certification via blockchain, its own wallet and a unique QR code to reveal the NFT - allowing collectors to own a piece of history in both the physical and digital realms. They are protected by state of the art protection - NFC chips for authentication.
This ensures that those who are not yet custodians of the Web3 world, have a less barriered entry, while at the same time acting as education for these collectors.

In their eyes you may find the Empire’s effect on the Imperial Couple, on Sisi’s clothing the joy she found in wander and on Franz’ the sense of duty he lived by. In the details you’ll learn, as we did, about what made their lives so memorable and in the skulls you can catch a glimpse of what awaits us all - Imperial or not.
